This answer is applicable for many BMWs in addition to the one listed below.
Q I have a 1985 BMW 745i upholstered with buffalo hide. Can you please advise me of a product to use to add moisture or otherwise preserve preserve the buffalo? Since it has always been different from other leathers I’ve seen, I am hesitant to use ordinary products on the market. The dealers with whom I’ve spoken don’t seem to know about buffalo hide. I would appreciate any help you can be.
A Many of the E23 models (7-series through 87) were optioned with the buffalo leather. While any leather care product can be used on the buffalo, we do have some specific recommendations. Due to the tougher nature of the buffalo leather and the old age, we have seen the best results in using the Lexol Neatsfoot leather conditioner. This product is specifically formulated for older leathers that need additional care due to wear and drying.

For overall leather care we offer a variety of products. All of these works well and will prolong the life of your BMW’s leather interior, be it old or new. Each of the products has its own positive point. Here is a sampling of some of the leather care products that we offer:
* Lexol – The Lexol line consists of a leather cleaner and two different conditioners; the Neatsfoot conditioner that is outlined above and the standard conditioner. The Lexol products are recognized by many leather care experts in the automotive field as well as other leather applications. While they work excellent, the Lexol products are the least expensive.
* Zymol – The Zymol Leather Treat is a premium leather care product. This is what most of us, here at Bavarian Autosport, choose to use on good-condition leather. It works very well, is easy to apply and, well … it smells good too! With the Zymol Leather Treat, we recommend the Lexol Leather Cleaner for pre-cleaning, when required.
* Doc Bailey’s – The Doc Bailey’s leather care is available in a tinted version for black leathers that may benefit from some color rejuvenation and a clear for all other colors (and black too). Both products have a pleasant “new car” smell. The Doc Bailey’s is a combination cleaner and conditioner.
