2006 BMW 330i E90 – Oil Change, Scheduled Service And Service Indicator Reset

Q
I have a 2006 BMW 330i Sedan with 90,000 miles on it. I like to do the work myself and I’m looking for a service reset tool for the new 3-series. I am pretty sure that the Bavarian Autosport Oil Service Light Reset Tool with Engine Fault Code Reader – fits most BMW’s 1988-2006 isn’t what I need. Can you tell me if there is a reset tool available for my car? Also, if I wanted to order the parts for the BMW 90K Service, what services might be included for the $1,500 – $2,000 that I was quoted from my local BMW dealer? Seem ridiculous? I am quite sure I ordered a catalog and purchased some items from Bavarian Autosport in 1998 when I had my 1988 BMW 325es and was very happy with the service. At that time, I called at 11:00pm on a Sunday to leave my info for a catalog and someone actually called me back!

The fault code & reset tool will read the engine management fault codes for your E90 chassis 3-series, but it will not reset the oil and service reminders (on the newer E90, E91, E92 & E93 models).  You can reset the oil and service reminders via the instrument cluster readout.  Click HERE for more info.

As for the 90,000 mile service, the majority of the BMW 90,000 mile service is inspection items, such as: fluid levels, suspension bushings, brake pads, coolant and fluid hoses, axle boots, exhaust, etc.  Unlike earlier BMW models, there are not specified Inspection-I, II and III parameters.  The newer models use a “conditions based” service philosophy.  Actual services are performed dependant on what the vehicle’s on-board service monitors indicate.  Everything else would just be inspections, as noted above.  Quite frankly, there are no official BMW specified replacement services at 90,000 miles, except for maybe an oil change.  We really can’t say what your dealer has listed for this 90,000 mile service. If your dealer can tell you what they plan to do, we would be glad to address the points and give you specific information on the services and any parts that may be replaced.

We would suggest that you follow our Ultimate BMW Maintenance Schedule.  The schedule is published in the Winter 2008 issue of our Fast Times newsletter.  This schedule is a bit more aggressive than BMW in some areas (those which we have learned need a more aggressive maintenance schedule), such as fluid replacements.  If you follow our Ultimate BMW Maintenance Schedule,  you will be servicing your BMW in a far better manner … AND …. you will be saving $1000s of dollars.
