How do you  replace the windshield washer fluid pump?

A

In order to replace the washer fluid pump, you will need to remove the washer fluid hose from the pump.  The hose is factory installed with a one-time use crimp-on band. To remove these we use a pair of pliers or diagonal cutters to bend and/or cut and separate the band. Once the hose is free from the old pump, and the electrical connection is removed, pull straight up on the old pump to remove it.

Install a new sealing grommet into the fluid reservoir pump mounting hole.  Install the new pump by pressing the pump into the grommet fully. Re-install the fluid hose to the pump with a new hose clamp. For model where the tank is hidden (most later model BMWs), you will need to remove a trim panel first.  A common mounting area on later model BMWs is behind the passenger side fender, behind the headlight or behind the right-front wheel.  Access typically requires that the plastic inner wheel well liner be removed.

The specific procedures for washer pump replacement for the different BMW and MINI models will be found in the applicable  Bentley repair manual.
