BMW and MINI DIY Video – Interior LED Dome Light Upgrade – How To
Have you ever noticed how your BMW or MINI dome lights are lacking in illumination or appear more yellow than white? Most BMW and MINI models suffer from this problem, especially the older 3, 5, 6 & 7 series models. We’ve always wanted to increase the usable interior lighting and achieve a whiter illumination on our BMWs and MINIs, but there have not been applicable upgraded, higher wattage, bulbs ….. and, this isn’t especially a good alternative due to the increased heat in the light housing and the higher electrical current draw. Bavarian Autosport, now has the perfect answer; universal LED (Light Emitting Diode) interior light upgrade kits that will retrofit into most BMW and MINI dome, reading and courtesy and interior light assemblies.
These kits include a bright multi-LED light panel and an assortment of bulb adapters that allow the LED lights to replace the original incandescent bulbs. The LED kits are available in 6, 12 or 24 LED kits. Each kit will retrofit one light assembly. The larger kits work with most dome lights and the smaller kits can be used for various vanity and courtesy lights that have smaller internal housing or reflector dimensions. We’ve even used the kits for license plate lights and side marker lights. The kits provide a brighter and whiter illumination than the original incandescent bulbs.
In this DIY video, we will show you the general installation procedure on a variety of interior lights. This will help you to understand how these kits are used and which one is most appropriate for your applications. The kits come as a small 6-LED single panel, 12-LED large panel and 24-LED that uses two of the 12-LED panels. Most of the various lights on our BMWs and MINIs will accommodate one of these kits. Always use the largest that will fit into the light housing or lens assembly.
